Today's Best Kept Secret
Pointless Press Conference reveals Elizabeth Edward's cancer had recurred. Campaign goes on.
Last Night CNN reported that John Edwards and his wife Elizabeth would be having a press conference today at noon. Edwards is in the race for United States popularity contest, currently running third place behind Lady Clinton and The Obama, respectively.
So the news? Well, 15 minutes after they said they'd be holding the press conference, the Edwards walked out into a courtyard where they had their wedding reception in '77. They announced as everyone had suspected, that Elizabeth had, once again, been diagnosed with cancer. She had breast cancer removed in 2004, not long after John Edwards and John Kerry lost laughingly in a nail biter with G'dub and Gramps.
So why the press conference? Will he stop in his quest for the presidency? Nope. Elizabeth says the show must go on. I suspect that the Edwards are looking for some attention. And I bet they'd love it if they can grab a few sympathetic votes. Which brings the number of sympathetic candidates in the race to three.
I feel bad for Elizabeth, and I hope the doctors allow her to treat the cancer. But you wasted 25 minutes of millions of viewers, reporters, camera people and the general publics time today. 15 minutes by being tardy and 10 minutes for announcing something every new station in the country had predicted. People are diagnosed with cancer everyday. Stop parading it around for votes.
